Dr.S.Omprakasam

Faculty Description

Dr. S. Omprakasam is currently serving as an Assistant Professor (Selection Grade) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College.He completed his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Sasurie College of Engineering, Erode District (affiliated to Anna University) in 2007, followed by an M.E. in Welding Technology from Government College of Engineering, Salem, in 2012. He earned his Ph.D. from Anna University. In recognition of his research contributions, he was awarded Supervisor Recognition by Anna University, Chennai in the field of Mechanical Engineering.

With 15 years of teaching experience and one year of industrial experience, Dr. Omprakasam brings a strong blend of academic and practical expertise to his field. His primary research interests lie in the performance enhancement of welding metallurgy, with additional focus on materials engineering, polymer and composite materials, and the application of AI/ML techniques in optimization.

He has authored over 16 publications in SCI/SCIE/Scopus-indexed journals, with a cumulative impact factor of 36 and an h-index of 5 on Scopus, reflecting the strong influence of his research. He also serves as a peer reviewer for Elsevier and Springer journals and is an editorial board member for the journal Alternate Energy Sources and Sustainability.

His contributions to innovation are marked by one granted patent, along with three additional patents filed in collaboration with students. Beyond his academic and research pursuits, he has played a key role in institutional development, serving as a coordinator and auditor for NBA, NAAC, and ISO processes.

Dr. Omprakasam's excellence has been recognized through several prestigious accolades, including the Best Paper Award, Silver Winner at iSAMN 2024 (Malaysia), Shining Research Star (2023, 2024, 2025), and the Best Design Award.
