The Engineering Practices Laboratory in the Mechanical
Engineering Department was instituted in the year 1994 at Sri
Ramakrishna Engineering College. The Engineering Practices Laboratory
consists of the Carpentry, Fitting section and sheet metal section.
It caters to the requisites of the Engineering Practices
Laboratory as per the Autonomous Syllabus and curriculum of the College.
First year B.E. and B.Tech. Students of the college perform Carpentry
experiments in the Engineering Practices Laboratory. Experiments
performed in the Carpentry shop include T lap joint, Dove tail lap
joint, Mortise and Tenon joints. Students are illustrated with
demonstration experiments in the Sheet Metal Shop as part of their
syllabus. Content beyond their Syllabus, students perform Square
filing, V-fitting and Square fitting experiments in this Laboratory.
The Engineering Practices Laboratory is also used for fabrication
of projects by the students for their Mini Project pursued in their
6th Semester, B.E. Mechanical Engineering course and also for the
fabrication in Project works ensued in the 8th Semester, B.E.
Mechanical Engineering course. The facilities available are also
utilized by the students belonging to the other branches for their
Project work in their 8th Semester, B.E./B.Tech courses. The
Engineering Practices Laboratory gets into limelight when the students
make the most of it for the fabrication and development of the BAJA
AUTO CAR every year successfully.
