Report on One-Day Guest Lecture
The Department of Chemistry, under the School of
Science and Humanities, organized a One-Day
Guest Lecture on “Carbon Footprint” (covering Sustainable Development Goal –
11) on 26th September 2025
at the College Auditorium. The event was exclusively arranged for the students
of First Year M.Tech. CSE, B.E. CSE
& Mechanical, B.Tech. IT and AIDS.
The program commenced with the Prayer Song, invoking the blessings
for a fruitful session. Dr. S. Sathiesh
Kumar, Associate Professor, S&H Chemistry, delivered the Welcome Address, warmly greeting the
dignitaries, faculty members, and students.
The Presidential
Address was delivered by Dr.
Sakthivel Aruchamy, Professor/EEE and Head – First Year Programmes, who
emphasized the importance of sustainability practices in engineering and
technological education, highlighting the relevance of carbon footprint
reduction in achieving SDG-11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
Dr. J. Suresh, Assistant
Professor (Sr. G), S&H Chemistry, introduced the distinguished
Chief Guest, Dr. Raju Nandhakumar,
Professor of Chemistry, Division of Physical Sciences, Karunya Institute of
Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore.
The Chief
Guest Address by Dr. Raju Nandhakumar enlightened the audience on the
scientific basis of carbon footprints, their environmental impact, and the
vital role of students and engineers in mitigating climate change. He also
linked real-world case studies and green chemistry principles with sustainable
solutions, encouraging students to adopt eco-friendly practices in their
academic and personal spheres.
The program concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. J. Sheeja, Assistant Professor (Sl.G),
S&H Chemistry, who expressed gratitude to the management,
dignitaries, organizing team, and students for their active participation. The
event ended with the National Anthem.
The lecture successfully created awareness among students about the urgent need to measure, manage, and reduce carbon footprints, aligning academic learning with global sustainability goals.
