Established in 1994, the Department of Mathematics was founded with the objective of offering Engineering Mathematics courses to undergraduate and postgraduate engineering programmes. Over the years, it has evolved into a vibrant centre for academic excellence and research, equipping students with a strong foundation in mathematics and advanced computational skills to address contemporary industrial, scientific, and technological challenges. The department is committed to nurturing talented students for successful academic, research, and professional careers that demand analytical thinking, mathematical proficiency, and computational expertise. It strives to achieve excellence in teaching, learning, and research by fostering innovation, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
Recognized as a Research Centre, the department has strengthened its research capabilities through five recognized Research Supervisors who actively guide doctoral scholars in specialized areas of mathematical sciences, including Operator Theory, Wind Energy, Control Theory, Stochastic Processes, and Neural Networks. In addition to these thrust areas, the department actively pursues research in Inventory Models, Graph Theory, Fluid Dynamics, Differential Equations, Numerical Analysis, Fuzzy Algebra, Queueing Theory, and Intuitionistic Fuzzy Inventory Models, reflecting its commitment to interdisciplinary research and the advancement of mathematical sciences.
The department is supported by a team of 17 highly qualified and experienced faculty members who are actively engaged in teaching, research, consultancy, and academic development. Faculty members have published numerous research articles in reputed national and international journals and continue to contribute significantly to emerging areas of mathematical sciences. Research activities are strengthened through financial support from prestigious funding agencies, including the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM). These funded projects have enhanced the department's research infrastructure, scholarly output, and national recognition. The department has also established a strong research culture, resulting in a significant number of quality publications, while 11 research scholars have successfully been awarded Ph.D. degrees under the guidance of its faculty members.
Beyond classroom instruction, the department places strong emphasis on holistic student development through continuous mentoring, career guidance, and support for higher education, research opportunities, and competitive examinations. It promotes the practical application of mathematics by cultivating problem-solving abilities, logical reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical skills. Students receive hands-on training in industry-relevant computational tools, including MATLAB, R, SageMath, and Scilab, and are encouraged to integrate these platforms into coursework, projects, and research activities to develop practical computational competence. The department further enriches the learning experience through access to the SREC Digital Library, which provides a comprehensive collection of e-journals, research articles, theses, conference proceedings, and e-books. Supported by a fully Wi-Fi-enabled campus, the department offers an intellectually stimulating environment that empowers students and faculty to pursue excellence in teaching, learning, innovation, and research.
