Faculty Description

Dr. S. Allirani is currently working as a Professor and Head of the Department in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College. She has a total teaching experience of 23 years and one year of industrial experience. She received her B.E. in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT), Coimbatore, in 1994, M.E. in Electrical Machines from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, in 2004, and Ph.D. in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering from Anna University, Chennai, India, in 2014.

She has published more than twenty papers in national and international conferences and 21 international journals, and she has also served as a journal reviewer. Her research interests lie in the areas of Electrical Machines and AC drives. She has been involved in consultancy projects and industry-institute collaborative projects with companies like Roots Industries and Salzer Industry, Coimbatore. She has authored a book titled "Design and Performance Analysis of Switched Reluctance Motor" using ANSYS.

Dr. Allirani has served as a resource person in Anna University and AICTE-sponsored FDPs (Faculty Development Programs) and has chaired numerous sessions in national and international conferences. She organized a two-week Staff Development Program (SDP) on "Modeling and Analysis of Electrical Machines" sponsored by AICTE. Additionally, she has received funds from ISTE and IEEE for organizing conferences and workshops.

She has supervised over 50 projects at the undergraduate level and 10 projects at the postgraduate level. She is a recognized supervisor at Anna University, Chennai, and is currently guiding two Ph.D. scholars. Dr. Allirani is highly interested in motivating students to participate in national-level innovative idea/project contests. Under her mentorship, an interdisciplinary team participated in the Smart India Hackathon, Hardware Edition 2019, and won the title. She also serves as a mentor for the startup "Makelloz Motors," initiated by another interdisciplinary team.

Dr. Allirani has attended numerous seminars, workshops, STTPs (Short Term Training Programs), FDPs, training under QIP (Quality Improvement Program) schemes, and industrial training sessions. She has completed 10 online certification courses in NPTEL and 7 online courses in Coursera. She has received several accolades, including the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Young Scientist Award 2019, NPTEL Star Award 2019, NPTEL topper in Electrical Machines I, and the NPTEL 'Top Performing Mentor Award'. She is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE), a life member of the System Society of India (SSI), and the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).
