Balamurugan (Balamurugan Kaliappan), an IEEE
Senior Member, is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Department
of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Sri
Ramakrishna Engineering College. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical
Engineering from Anna University, Chennai,
in 2020. He completed his M.E. in Power Electronics and Drives from Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore, in
2006, and his B.E. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Periyar University, Salem, in 2004.
Dr. Balamurugan
has over 20 years of teaching experience and has published more than 40
research papers in reputed journals with high impact factors, along with
several conference papers and book chapters. His research interests include
Power Electronics, Control Systems using MATLAB,
and BLDC motor applications for Electric Vehicles. He also completed the CODE
Certification Course on “Battery Pack Design and Development” from Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 2025.
He has been
recognized as an “Innovation and Incubation Ambassador” by the Ministry of Education Innovation Cell (MHRD
IIC), New Delhi, and received the “MGM Award” from IEEE Headquarters, New York, for the years 2024
and 2025. He serves as a Board of Studies (BoS) member, has chaired several
academic programmes and conferences, and frequently delivers special talks on
student inspiration and motivation.
He is a Life
Member of Indian Society for Technical Education
(ISTE) and Association for Computing Machinery
(ACM). He currently serves as the IEEE Student Branch Counsellor at Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College, Vice-Chair
of the IEEE Society on Social Implications of
Technology (SSIT), Madras Section Chapter SIT30, and Global Membership
Committee Coordinator of IEEE SSIT and also a member of IEEE Young Professional
Society, IEEE Power Electronics Society, IEEE Education Society, IEEE Circuits
and System Society, IEEE SSIT Society chapter.
