The Department of Chemistry was established in 1994 and has since grown into a centre of academic excellence and research innovation. The department is supported by a team of highly qualified, experienced, and dedicated faculty members committed to quality teaching and advanced research. The department is a recognized research department of Anna University, Chennai. Full-time research scholars are supported through the Institutional Research Fellowship, which provides monthly financial assistance and encourages them to apply for prestigious government fellowships. Currently, three faculty members are recognized as research supervisors under Anna University and are guiding five Ph.D. scholars in various research domains. The department has also received financial support from the management and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to organize national seminars, conferences, and student-centric programs. Research activities in the department address several contemporary and interdisciplinary areas, including Materials Science, Nanoscience, Nanotechnology, Corrosion Science, Thin Films, Environmental Science, Phytochemistry, Photocatalysis, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, High-Performance Polymers, Organometallic Chemistry, Supramolecular Chemistry and Chemosensors.
