      The Departments of Physics was established in the year 1994. Dedicated, well qualified and experienced faculty members of the department lead to the path of success. The Department of Physics is recognized as Research Department by Anna University, Chennai. Seven faculty are recognized research supervisors under Anna University and supervising seven Ph.D. scholars in various domains. Research in the Department ranges across the most challenging problems in materials science, nanoscience and nanotechnology. The Department has also received funds from DST under TDT to the tune of around 42 lakh and also received funds from DST, TNSCST, DRDO to organise various conferences and student centric programmes.  DST – FIST has sponsored to improve the infrastructural facilities of various departments. DC Sputtering unit, Solar simulator and Photoluminescence spectrometer have been purchased under DST-FIST scheme. Apart from that, the departments have a well-established synthesis lab equipped to synthesize nanomaterials and thin films. Characterization lab is equipped with XRD, AFM, UV, ATR and Electrochemical workstation.

Head of First Year Programme

Dr. A. Sakthivel, a seasoned Electrical & Electronics Engineering professional with over 28 years of rich experience spanning academia and industry. He holds a B.E. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from GCT Coimbatore (1999), an M.E. in Power Electronics and Drives from PSG College of Technology (2002), and a Ph.D. from Anna University, Chennai (2016).

His core research interests focus on power quality, power converters, and soft computing techniques. He has had the privilege to contribute to the global academic community as a recognized research supervisor at Anna University, Chennai since 2017, and as a sabbatical researcher at Cape Breton University, Canada (2012).

Throughout my career, He has published 25+ papers in reputed international journals including IEEE Access, Elsevier, and Springer, and presented 24+ research papers at various national and international conferences.
