Anti-Ragging Awareness On-line Campaign, Affidavit with Punishment

As per the directions of UGC and Anna University, Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College has formed Anti- ragging committee and squad for curbing the menace of ragging in the college for each academic year.

The Anti ragging Committee Members comprise of Principal, Nodal Officer, Inspector of Police, Senior Revenue Inspector, Official of an NGO, HoD, Professor and Associate Professors of different departments, Senior Deputy Warden (Mens Hostel), Senior Deputy Warden (Womens Hostel), Transport in charge, Parent representative, Student member and Non-Teaching Staff.

Complaints regarding ragging can be brought to the notice of the Anti-Ragging squad members, who will assist the Anti-Ragging committee members in preventing ragging. One faculty Member from each department will be a Squad Member.

As per the directions of UGC, New Delhi and Anna University, Chennai, the College has formed squad members consisting of Faculty Members from various Departments and Hostel Tutors to check and prevent ragging in the College premises and Hostels during Tea break, lunch time and during evening time (4.40 pm - 5.10 pm) every week. The members will monitor the assigned places and submit a report to the respective Convener and the Conveners will submit the consolidated report to Dr. J. Selvakumar, Professor/CSE, Nodal officer, Anti-ragging committee, after getting the signature from Principal on the last day of duty period. Monthly reports will be submitted to UGC, Anna University and the District Collector based on the consolidated reports.

The Anti ragging squad shall work in coordination with the Anti-ragging Committee and oversee the implementation of the recommendations by the Government.

As per the instruction of UGC / Supreme Court of India, every Student of the Institute and his / her parents and, or Guardian has submitted an affidavit at the time of admission, which is mandatory for registration / admission. All HODs were requested to instruct the Academic coordinators and Tutors along with Department Squad Anti - ragging Member of all B.E/B.Tech/M.E/MBA programmers to create awareness on ragging during class hours.

Online Anti-ragging Affidavit Forms

As per the instruction of UGC / Supreme Court of India, every Student of the Institute and his / her parents and, or Guardian has submitted an affidavit at the time of admission, which is mandatory for registration / admission. All HODs were requested to instruct the Academic coordinators and Tutors along with Department Squad Anti-ragging Member of all B.E/B.Tech/M.E/MBA programmes to create awareness on ragging during class hours.

Guide the Students to fill out the Online Anti - ragging Affidavit forms individually and after filing. Submit the Anti - ragging Online Affidavit Acknowledgement Letter and Anti - ragging Online Affidavit Details will reach the Nodal officer through the Department Anti-ragging Squad.

Conduct Anti - ragging Awareness Campaign in each and every class by Tutor, AC & Dept Anti-ragging Squad Member. Awareness on ragging should is created among students during class hours and Geo-tag Photograph with Campaign minutes (year-wise) duly signed by Students representatives, Tutors, Department Anti - ragging Squad Member, Academic coordinator and HoD will be submitted.

The Anti-Ragging awareness campaign is conducted for each Programme, Year-wise to each class consisting of the Nodal Officer, Head of Department of the concerned Programme, Anti-ragging Squad member of the concerned Department, Academic Co-ordinator, Tutors of that class, Student Class Representative and the following points were discussed during the session:

  • The importance of Anti Ragging policy was explained to promote awareness.
  • Students were made aware of psychological, social, political, economic, culture and academic aspects of ragging.
  • They were given information that ragging is a Crime.
  • Importance of ragging free environment in Educational Institution was discussed.
  • Any act that prevents or disrupts the regular academic activity of a student is considered as academic related ragging.
  • AICTE has insisted anti ragging under section 23 in regulation 2009 was elaborated.
  • It is informed that activities such as any disorderly conduct by words spoken or written, assault as well as injury to body causing hurt or grievous hurt, which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness, causing psychological harm, generating a sense of shame, disturbing the regular academic activity, exploiting the services, forceful expenditure, physical abuse, public insulting, affecting self-confidence of a fresher / any student will be considered as ragging.
  • They were advised not to indulge in rowdy or indiscipline activities, which cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension to any other student in the foresaid ragging activities within or outside the campus as it will be considered as a crime.
  • They were informed about Various Indian Penal Codes (IPC) such as 294, 304, 306, 307, 319, 320, 321, 322, 323, 324, 325, 326, 334, 335, 336, 337, 338, 339, 340, 341, 342, 349, 350, 351, 354 and 506 that are followed against different ragging activities are informed for awareness.
  • Numerous steps taken by University Grants Commission (UGC) to restrain ragging in the educational institutions were discussed.
  • National Anti-Ragging Help line 1800-180-5522 and Email: helpline@antiragging.in was provided.
Punishments of Abetment of Ragging

The Anti Ragging Committee depending on the nature and gravity of the guilt established by the Anti- Ragging squad, to those found guilty, one or more of the following punishment namely:

  • Suspension from attending classes and academics privileges
  • Withholdings / Withdrawing scholarships / Fellowships and other benefits
  • Debarring from appearing in any Test / Examination or other evaluation process.
  • With holdings results
  • Debarring from representing the Institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, Youth festival etc.
  • Suspension / Expulsion from the Hostel.
  • Cancellation of Admission
  • FIR with Police and arrest
  • Fine ranging from Rs. 25,000 to Rs.1,00,000

The students were advised to participate in activities like sports and cultural events which encourage the flow of energy to retain a healthy environment.
