The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a flagship youth development programme of the Government of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Established in 1969 with the motto "Not Me, But You," NSS aims to develop the personality and character of students through community service while improving the social responsibility, leadership and national integration.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) at Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College (SREC) has been actively serving society since 1998. Our institution has four active NSS units, comprising of three Anna University-funded units and one Self-Financing Unit. Together, these units actively involve hundred volunteers per unit in addressing societal challenges through impactful outreach programmes and community service initiatives.
SREC NSS organizes regular activities such as tree plantation drives, blood donation camp, general health camp, eye camp, dental camp, Swachh Bharat Mission campaigns, health and hygiene awareness programmes, road safety and fire safety initiatives, voter awareness campaigns, plastic-free campus drives, Jal Shakti Abhiyan programmes, village adoption programmes, disaster management awareness and community development activities. In addition, it actively collaborates with various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) namely Osai Foundations, Siruthuli, RAAC, Kovai Kulangal Paadhukappu Amaippu, government departments such as Coimbatore Corporation, Revenue Department, Education Department, Forest Department and healthcare institutions to implement impactful community outreach programmes. These initiatives encourage students to become responsible citizens committed to the nation's progress.
SREC NSS also conducts a seven-day Special Camp every year in adopted villages, where volunteers work closely with local communities to identify and address social issues. Such experiential learning strengthens the bond between the institution and the community while nurturing compassion, discipline and service-mindedness among students.
The National Service Scheme functions with the motto "NOT ME BUT YOU" in view of making the youth involve in service to the people and focus on Education and personality development through Community Service.
The vision is to build the youth with the mind and spirit to serve the society and work for the social uplift of the down-trodden masses of our nation as a movement.
