EXCELLING IN DEVELOPMENT: EMPOWERING YOUNG MINDS
In a concerted effort to make English education accessible to underprivileged students in rural government schools, SREC has implemented a program that enlists proficient English-speaking college students to visit various schools and impart language skills. This program has been running successfully for over a year and a half now. This initiative not only seeks to bridge educational gaps but also aims to inspire curiosity and lay the foundation for future leaders. As enthusiastic college students, we step into school classrooms, acting as catalysts for skill development and agents of positive change.
Recently, members of the English Language and Reading Club, including myself, along with the faculty of the College, participated in the Naan Mudhalvan scheme and visited Idikarai Govt. High School on November 29th to assist children in enhancing their language skills. The experience proved to be a mutual learning journey, where our teaching efforts refined our communication and leadership skills. This collaborative process fosters resilience and growth for both college students and school learners.
What became evident during our interaction was the student's keen interest in conversing in English, indicating a latent desire for guidance. We engaged the students with interesting and informative games, providing an enjoyable learning environment for both parties involved. Our focus extended beyond academic development; we aimed to instill confidence and a genuine love for learning that transcends conventional textbooks.
Recognizing the importance of skill development for personal and professional success, we understand that continuous learning not only enhances abilities but also nurtures confidence and resilience. Embracing the notion that "skills are the currency of the future" & "Skills make dreams happen," we find pleasure in contributing to the skill development of the upcoming generations.
Our commitment doesn't conclude with a single school visit. Instead, we aspire to collectively shape a future where every student thrives, and every dream takes flight. This journey is an ongoing endeavour to empower young minds and build a community where educational opportunities are equitable and transformative.
