HALCYON'23
On the 21st of April, members of the English Literary Society (ELS) gathered to celebrate the birth anniversary of one of the most celebrated playwrights in history - William Shakespeare. The day was filled with fun activities and games, culminating in the announcement of prize winners for various contests held in the lead-up to the event.
The morning began with a quiz on a wide spectrum of genres, which tested the student's knowledge of the poet's life and works. This particular event kindled the curiosity among the participants, and their active involvement of theirs was incomparable!
Simultaneously, the participants were engaged in Switch talk, which exhibited different skills of the young talented minds. After the quiz, the students were divided into active groups to run a scavenger hunt. The treasure finder team was charmed as the winner.
The highlight of the day was the interactive talk by the guest of honour, Dr. Radhika (ASP Eng, KCT), who emphasized the importance and requisites of public speaking. Her keynotes were reading makes a good speaker, understand your audience and create rapport. By the end of her session, students gained an immaculate level of confidence to address a gathering.
The event pinnacled in the announcement of prize winners. The winners of the quiz, switch talk, and the treasure hunt was congratulated and awarded cash prizes, as were the winners of Talentia'23. The groups who performed the scenes from Shakespeare's plays were also awarded prizes for their efforts.
What's more elite than winning an opportunity to become a member of the English Literary Society! Talentia'23 winners were on cloud nine when they realized that they had just unlocked the golden ticket to ELS!
The celebration of Shakespeare's birthday was a fitting tribute to the man who has given us so much through his works. It was heartening to see the students engage with Shakespeare's plays and characters and to see them take pride in their knowledge of the bard's life and works.
Events like these not only foster a love for literature and the arts but also encourage creativity and critical thinking. We hope that the students will continue to engage with Shakespeare's works and take inspiration from his timeless stories and characters.
