Day 1 in SREC | School to College Edition | Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College

Day 1 in SREC - School to College Edition

After having the longest vacation of our lives, we've officially been students of Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College for the past two months. Almost felt like we turned into adults overnight.

The very first day we were asked to assemble at the auditorium. Us being the obedient students we are, started off in a line. Looked around to find that no one actually minded how straight our line was or if there was even a line to begin with. We realized that we weren't school students anymore.

We have all had our fantasies about college life, based on the things we heard before our 12th boards, like "Work hard this year, and you will be able to have all the fun you would like to have in your college" and being the clueless kids we were, we believed that. That being said, wearing the same two pigtails, ironed clothes, and shiny shoes every day was much easier, and we could've gotten ready with our eyes closed. But now, the pressure of choosing our dresses the day before and remembering to wear shoes on lab days almost makes us say that we do, in fact, miss our uniforms. Promising the teacher that we did do our homework but forgot to pack our notes was much easier. Convincing the professor the same, on the other hand, wasn't a great idea as it was supposed to be done in our devices, which were, well, safely present in our bags.

Walking through our high school hallways like we owned the place seemed way too cool back then. But stepping into college really humbled us. We tend to be more unnoticeable than we expected to be. It wasn't all bad because it did help us to get away after royally messing up something. We desperately wanted to build our networks. Looking back at the end of the day, we realized that we had made 2 friends in total and spent the entire day exploring the food court menu. At least the people working there know us very well. That definitely counts as networking.

We had only a few followers on Instagram, but by the time we entered the college, we were so obsessed with following everyone we met. That also counts as networking for sure.

We remember watching movies, the surreal moment when the protagonist enters the college. He strolls through, looking effortlessly perfect, and boom, he dashes into the female lead. He apologizes and he later helps her find their classrooms. That wasn't our story at all. We explicitly received notifications about our classroom whereabouts the day before. We had to explore the campus all alone. But in all honesty, the friendships turned out to be epic after all. This friendship should last long, fingers crossed.

It didn't matter how unorganized and new we were at this; everything started to fall on track as we became more comfortable with the surroundings, which our college has helped us a lot. We had a lot of interesting doubts to ask our seniors about fresher's day, other events, and, most importantly about the industrial visit. We witnessed a few wonderful events with a side platter of our internal exams, of course. We, the batch 2024, really look forward to a lot of unforgettable moments happening in our life from this campus, which are going to be carried as a lifetime memory by each and every student in SREC.
