Hailing the triumph of our team at TECHgium!

“Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that count.” Abiding by this mandate highlights the importance of resilience, perseverance, and courage to continue moving forward despite setbacks and challenges. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of achieving a hard-fought win, and that’s what our team experienced at the recent TECHgium, an academia-industry engineering innovation hackathon hosted by L&T Technology Services (LTTS). Under the guidance of Dr. A. Murugarajan, Head of the department, and Dr. R. Sudhakar, Association Professor, Department of Robotics and Automation, a brilliant group of students, Arshini Sai H, Desigan B R, Swathi C, and Srijith K M from the III years Robotics and Automation have earned the esteemed Special Jury Award. Our exceptional team was bestowed with the grand prize of INR 1,00,000 by the eminent personalities Abhishek Sinha, Chief Operating Officer and Board Member of LTTS, and Dr. B.K. Das, Director General - Electronics & Communication Systems from the Ministry of Defense (DRDO), had the privilege of collaborating with the legendary Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The momentous occasion saw our team basking in the limelight, with their extraordinary accomplishments being recognized by some of the most prominent figures in the industry. Our team’s remarkable feat was further magnified by the fact that this particular category of the award had not been included in any previous TECHgium editions, making our win all the more noteworthy. The distinguished jury panel, along with participants, was greatly impressed by our team’s exceptional work leading to this exclusive recognition being bestowed upon us. The finalists exhibited and presented their working prototypes to a jury comprising industry veterans, academicians, and analysts, where our team’s design was ranked in the top six among the set of 25 teams from all over India, including IITs and other esteemed institutions.

Our enterprising team rose to the challenge of creating a product that could move with the speed of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and lift a human to a height similar to Aerial Work Platforms (AWP). After rigorous brainstorming and testing, our brilliant young minds created an Autonomous Warehouse Robot (AWR) that could perform both aerial and material handling tasks with minimal human intervention. This collaborative robot boasts adaptive aesthetics, advanced localization, mapping, and vision systems. The robot’s cutting-edge features include an incredibly efficient and streamlined design, an advanced rechargeable battery, an auto-guided cruise function, obstacle detection and avoidance capabilities, and an impressive zero-turning radius.

“With a magnificent platform to flaunt our talent, we attained an excellent opportunity to showcase our expertise and skill set. Interacting with industry professionals and visitors was a euphoric experience, creating unforgettable moments that will be etched in our memories forever.” the team members said. Their success is a true reflection of the exceptional talent and potential that our institution harbors and we are proud to have them represent us at the national level. The hard work and dedication put in by our team paid off, and their win is a testament to their exceptional skills and expertise in their field.
