Showcasing Talents and Igniting Passions
On the 11th of February 2023, Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College played host to an array of extracurricular activities for its first-year students. The aim of these events was to encourage and bring out the passion of the students and as well provide a platform to showcase their skills and talents. The events were organized by different clubs in the college, and this blog post will provide a comprehensive outlook of the four events that took place, with a focus on the students' life in the campus.
KNACK-23 by Reading Movement
KNACK-23 was an exciting event organized by the Reading Club of the college on 11th February 2023. The participants felt myriad emotions ranging from excitement to ecstasy as they entered the room filled with new faces and a few familiar ones.
The first round had 2 wings, the 1st wing was generally a hard leathery, and the 2nd level was calculated to be a reasonable round; 'The Genius Guess' and 'The Writers'. The Genius Guess was a vocabulary guessing event where participants were given tricky sentences with four options for the underlined vocabulary to choose from. This event helped participants learn new words and build their syntax.
'The Writers' was a story-writing event where participants were given seven main genres - Action, Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, Horror, Mystery, Romance, and Thriller to choose from and they were free to choose multiple genres if they wanted to. The conditions were to write at least 2 pages of a story within an hour. Participants turned into little story writers and tried to bring their stories to life.
"TALENTIA '23" by English Literary Society
Skills are meant to be exhibited and for that a perfect stage is required. English Literary Society of our college conducted TALENTIA '23 to unearth the talents of first-year students. More than 80 students from various departments participated in two different contests. For the first contest, students were asked to divide themselves into a team of two and make one of them guess a word by the clues given by the other. More than the participants, the audience squeezed their brains to figure out the answers.
The event then proceeded to an elocution competition which elicited an enthusiastic and rousing representation. By conducting such events, students are given a chance to explore themselves as to who they are, what they are good at and sculpt themselves.
PHELIX 2K23 by Philatelic Club Of SREC
Philately and Numismatics age together like fine wine. To preserve collectibles under these domains requires a great level of determination and genuine interest. So, our college conducted a fruitful event on the basis of philately and numismatics. The various competitions that took place are stamp designing, currency and coins display, stamp display and last but not least Elocution. Philatelic club, at its Silver Jubilee year, gave equal importance to all the competitions that took place and were all conducted like a well-oiled machine. Participants from various departments had a wide variety of collections each with their own story to tell. Venues for any event are the foundation to what makes the event a grand success. The club organised the venue in a smart way as it enabled many spectators get easy access to the display session. The chief guest for the display session was Dr. Arun Kumar from the department of Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Arun Kumar's collection of currency and coins baffled the audience. His storytelling was beyond words and the display was magnificent. Coming to stamp designing, all the participants showed their artistic skills and it was great to see all of them produce in such a short span of time. Coins and currency display were the highlight of the event. Participants had good range of coins mainly from the British-India era and many displays were vibrant and amazing.
TALENT HUNT 2023 by Fine Arts Club
The auditorium was filled with nervousness and zeal. Some were confident, some were patient and many were edgy; that important is Talent Hunt, for every fine arts student studying in SREC. "Showcase your talent. We'll make it shine." is what Fine Arts Club aspires and that is what keeps them at their fineness. Talent Hunt 2023 was held by the Fine Arts Club of SREC. Talents such as singing, dancing, miming, mimicking and instrumental music were explored and more than 100 students participated in this event passionately. Forenoon was exclusively concentrated for Solo Singing and Variety performance like Mimicry. In the afternoon, the hall was filled with blasting music for the dance performances, both solo and group, and mime. The competitions were judged by the faculty members of the college. The selected students would join the current members of FAC and showcase their talents in the forthcoming events. Congrats to all the SRECians for their eager participation. These events are an excellent example of the college's commitment to promoting students' development and providing a holistic education. The events also show that college life is about more than just academics and that there are many opportunities for students to explore their interests and passions. Overall, the events were a huge success and served as a testament to the college's commitment to student development and excellence.
