Unleashing the Power of Sports
As one peruses through the hallowed halls of our esteemed institution, one would be remiss not to recognize the immense value we place on sports and its role in shaping the lives of our pupils. The art of sporting is not just about showcasing physical prowess, but in cultivating an unwavering determination that allows one to achieve the impossible.
Sports instil countless qualities in pupils that help them navigate life with honesty and autonomy for themselves and others. It also allows students to be flexible and fit, which promotes academic concentration and willingness to achieve better in any discipline. Nothing can boost our adrenaline other than the Sports day. The department of Physical Education organized 27th Annual Sports Day on 7th March. Dr Lakshmi Loganathan, Physical Directress (Retd.) graced the event as the guest of honour.
Her inspiring legacy taught our fellow mates numerous lessons. She indeed proved that age is just a number and not a hindrance in our path towards victory. Champions of various sports like Ball Badminton, Chess, Cricket, Basketball and Kho-kho were felicitated on this day. National level champions were rejoiced with a memento.
House matches were conducted earlier this year. The blue house was crowned as the overall champion. All their sweat were paid off!
On the other hand, SREC has once again showcased its prowess in not only academic excellence but also as a sporting paradise. The SREC Alumni Trophy -2023, organized jointly by the Department of Physical Education and SREC Alumni Association, was a three-day tournament featuring men's hockey, handball, and volleyball, along with women's volleyball. The tournament witnessed the participation of 612 students from various engineering colleges, all with great zeal and enthusiasm.
The tournament was inaugurated by the esteemed Dr. J. David Rathnaraj, Professor and Head, Department of Aeronautical Engineering and Mr. Ananth Manoharan, an alumnus ( ECE).
The competition reached an all-time high, making it a nerve-wracking experience for all participants. The results of the tournament were indeed surprising and joyful. The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Mr. R. Selvaraj, an alumnus (EEE), who congratulated all the participants and distributed the prizes to the winners.
SREC has always been committed to encouraging a culture of sports among its students, and the SREC Alumni Trophy -2023 is a testament to this commitment. With the participation of numerous colleges and the exceptional performance of its students, SREC has once again proven that it is not just an academic institute but a hub for sports enthusiasts as well.
These showcases the importance of sports in shaping one's personality. SREC has always been committed to providing a holistic education to its students and ensuring that they develop into well-rounded individuals. The 27th Annual Sports Day and SREC Alumni Trophy -2023 are some among many initiatives undertaken by the college to nurture and encourage sporting talent among its students.
