YAALI 2023

Yali for us, the SRECians, is a festival where we fervently celebrate our Tamil Annai and her indomitable spirit that forms the crux of the timeless heritage of the Dravidian stock. It is an intercollege event that hunts for and hails the yearning that college-goers in this part of the world have for Classical Tamil.

The groundwork for this event started way back in December by the Tamil Mandram wherein first year students were roped in to weave magically incredible decorations.

It was a two-day event organized by the Tamil Mandram and Alumni Cell of SREC. The event began with fanfare Tamil Thai Vazhthu and the lighting of kuthuvilakku by the Chief Guests of the day- Mr. Adhavan Dheekshanya, distinguished and celebrated Tamil writer/poet, the well-known speaker/debater Dr.S. Paramasivan alongside with our beloved Principal, Dr. N.R. Alamelu and our Coordinator Dr. P.A. Saravanan. The annual magazine, "Kanaiyazhi" was released on stage. The chief guest addressed the gathering with his mesmerizing speech followed by a debate on "The monumental marathon run by the contemporary youth for life-skills upgradation is for A) Self-Development or B) Social Development. The debate mediated by Dr. S. Paramasivan as the chairperson was well received and lauded by all present.

On the second day competitions such as elocution, wall-painting, poetry writing, and group dance were conducted on top of depiction of various Tamil culture-centric arts such as Therukoothu and Villupaatu. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 200 students from various colleges and the winners were accorded cash prizes. The overall winners' trophy was lifted by the Tamilnadu Agriculture University. With tired yet beaming faces smeared with smudged makeup and fatigued bodies but galvanized spirits, the winners were a sight to behold!!!
