We
are delighted to share that our first Institute Post-doctoral fellow, Dr. S.
Thangamani, from the Department of Nano Science and Technology, under the
mentorship of Prof. Moorthi Pichumani, has successfully developed
porphyrin Carbon Quantum Dot (CQD) nanoprobes. These innovative nanoprobes can
selectively detect heavy metal ions like Cobalt (Co2+) and Zinc (Zn2+)
using a fluorescent method. This pioneering research sheds new light on the
design of novel optical sensors for heavy metal ion detection.
This
remarkable research has been published in the prestigious Elsevier Journal, Diamond and Related
Materials (established in 1991, Impact Factor: 4.1, Q2). The
development of these sensors not only demonstrates the innovative capabilities
of our post-doctorate but also contributes valuable knowledge to develop a novel
sensor for heavy metal detection and ensure the quality of water.
The
implications of this work extend beyond academic achievement, as it addresses
crucial environmental issues and aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
(UN Sustainable Development Group), specifically SDG 6: Clean Water and
Sanitation. By advancing our ability to monitor and ensure water quality, this
research supports global efforts to provide access to safe and affordable
drinking water for all.

The Everest Marathon is no ordinary race. It\'s a test of endurance, courage, and sheer determination. Starting at the Everest Base Camp (5,364 meters above sea level), runners navigate treacherous trails, icy slopes, and thin air, all while surrounded by the majestic Himalayan panorama.
# Nausheen\'s Triumph
Ms. Nausheen, a proud SREC alumna from the 2012-2016 Aeronautical Engineering branch, defied all odds. With unwavering resolve, she conquered the unforgiving terrain, pushing her limits for ten and a half hours. Her footsteps echoed through the valleys, echoing the spirit of resilience and passion.
# Beyond the Finish Line
Nausheen\'s achievement isn\'t just about crossing the finish line; it\'s a testament to human spirit and the pursuit of excellence. Her journey inspires our current students, faculty, and the entire SREC community.
# A Legacy of Perseverance
As we celebrate Nausheen\'s triumph, we reflect on SREC\'s legacy—a place where dreams take flight, where knowledge meets courage, and where alumni like Nausheen continue to make us proud.
# Special Thanks
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Principal and Management of Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College for their unwavering support. Their encouragement fuels our pursuit of greatness. We also acknowledge the SREC Alumni Association, whose backing strengthens our bonds and propels us forward.
Congratulations, Nausheen! Your feat resonates with the very essence of #aerosrec: soaring higher, reaching farther, and leaving footprints on the world\'s highest stage. ????????️
Note: The Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon is one of the most challenging races globally, held annually in Nepal to commemorate the first successful ascent of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953.

???? Every small success is a
step towards your ultimate goal ????
We are happy to share that our faculty members from the Department of
Nano Science and Technology have successfully developed zirconia
nanostructure-based highly sensitive and selective chemical sensors. These
sensors are capable of detecting the renal disease breath marker,
monomethylamine vapor, at room temperature. This unique research work suggests
a highly efficient sensing element for the fabrication of an electronic nose,
which will lead to the development of non-invasive medical diagnostic devices.
This maiden research work has been published in the prestigious Elsevier Journal,
Materials Science and Engineering: B (since 1966, Impact factor: 3.6 & Q2).
The development of these sensors not only demonstrate the innovative
capabilities of our faculty but also contributes valuable knowledge to the
field of medical nanotechnology.
We would like to extend our congratulations to the research team members,
Dr. R. Pandeeswari, Assistant Professor and Dr. Moorthi Pichumani,
Professor, for their dedication and hard work. Their achievement highlights our

Electric vehicles have been seen as
a promising technology option and several nations are implementing policies to
promote EV technology. Our country is aspiring to have at least 30% of private automobiles
as EVs by 2030. While EVs are being promoted on a large scale through
a variety of appealing schemes and policies, there are few challenges impeding
the success of these campaigns. The most prominently reported challenges are
low mileage of the vehicles, higher costs, lack of service centers, unawareness
about maintenance and servicing, unclear policies, supply chain problems, and
insufficient charging stations. The seminar will provide an opportunity for the
participants to discuss on various advancements, challenges and opportunities
in Electric vehicles.

COIMBATORE: The students of Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College have come up with an artificial intelligence (AI) software that could find out if one is positive for Covd-19 with a chest x-ray. It could also detect severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and pneumonia.
According to the students, the software could identify distinct patterns that corona virus cause in a patient’s lungs. “So, it can easily detect if one is positive before symptoms manifest.â€
They say the novel corona virus usually enters through a person’s nose or mouth, then attaches itself to his/her throat and travels down to lungs, before entering bronchioles and alveoli. Sometimes, symptoms take 14 to 18 days to manifest that too when the patient’s immune system starts reacting.
Kirupasankar, a student who was part of the team that developed the software, says, “When the virus enters the lungs, it causes certain changes. The patches have distinct notches and nodes, which could be picked up in the x-ray. The AI software will examine a picture in every x-ray 224 times and identify if it is Covid-19 or not.â€
He said the software was developed with deep learning technology, which is advanced and could be improved to have an accuracy rate of 99.25%.
Doctors, however, say the new technologies have to be studied for years before using as a testing or screening method. Dr. Nirmala, dean, ESI Hospital, says, “From close to 250 patients that we have seen, only 1%-2% of them had changes in the lung x-rays before symptoms manifest. In fact, a majority of asymptomatic and some symptomatic patients do not have changes in their lung x-ray.â€
Referring to the AI software, she said such a technology has to be proven by successfully identifying thousands of patients over a period of time, before they could use that. “As of now, only real time polymerase chain reaction antigen test is recommended for screening or diagnosis of Covid-19.â€
The students say they have also developed an android app named Mithran, which if allowed, would use geo-mapping technology to tell you the places you have been, if you have been in contact with a Covid-19 patient and if you need to quarantine yourself.

April 27, 2020
Students of Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College have come up with artificial intelligence (AI)-based solution to detect lung infections. A release from the institutions said that 40 students from Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology and Electronics and Communication Engineering, who were a part of the collaborative innovation centre (COIN), developed AI-based algorithm to scan x-ray images of lungs to identify the type of infection. When the algorithm was used to scan the images, it would come out with the type of infection - COVID-19 or pneumonia or severe acute respiratory syndrome, the release said.
